Rich Hanf is known as one of the industry's best "haunters." Known for his many exploits, Rich is considered more of an industry "personality" than a "haunter." His list of accomplishments span several areas of expertise such as:
1. Along with haunting legend John Denley, Rich virtually spawned the "how to" video craze with their "How To Do Fright Right" Parts 1 & 2 instructional videotapes. It was in part 2 that they introduced the concept of sharing secrets by showing other peoples haunts to the industry... a concept that has since been used repeatedly by many a subsequent haunter.
2. Rich's next project was production of the "Haunted Attraction Employee Handbook," which became the industry bible for haunters looking for effective proven methods for managing their employees.
3. Shortly after that Rich put out the industry's best selling "how to" videotape to date called "Live On Horror Hill." In this videotape he took viewers on a "behind-the-scenes" tour of his show while he explained not only the scares, but also the psychology behind the scares.
Rich writing expertise was profiled in feature industry magazines such as "John Denley's Fright Times Scarezine," "Jim O'Rear's Underground Entertainment," "Larry Kirchner's Hauntworld The Magazine," and "Leonard Pickel's Haunted Attraction Magazine."
Industrywise, Rich was also featured on the cover and was interviewed as the cover story in both "Fright Times" and "Underground Entertainment," including being nationally featured in tabloids like The Globe and all the way up to such respected newspapers as the Sunday New York Times.
Rich is, also, no stranger to television since he was featured several times on Ch. 2 New York, CBS National, Fox 5 New York, WABC Ch. 7 New York, UPN 9, The WB Ch 11, and CNN, just to name a few. Rich has frequently appeared on other industry expert haunter videos, including being a well-known interviewer on the "Hauntworld" series.
Rich was a member of the "TERROR TEAM," which included John Denley, Kevin McCurdy, and Ricky Dick. Together they worked on haunted attractions in tourist areas like Lake George, N.Y., including Internationally all the way to Hong Kong, China before the team went their separate ways.
The following is a list of Rich's haunted attractions:
a. Nightmare Hayride
b. The Haunted Castle...three times
c. Frightland
d. Zombieland
e. Horror Hill
f. The Haunted House Horror Show
g. Scream in the Dark
h. House of the Living Dead... 3 years running
Always the showman, Rich has agreed to appear for the 6th year as the executioner for the New York Renaissance Faire where he hosts a Medieval Torture Chamber and a Medieval Weapons of War Museum. His Dungeon Of Doom and Terrors of the Unknown Sideshow have received raves at many local New Jersey fairs. Most recently, Rich has been the focus of a Documentary called "HAUNTERS" that has been shot by New York Film Maker Byrd McDonald. The project, 5 years in the making, is now scheduled for release in Summer 2004.
Finally, in another industry first, Rich teamed up (again) with Jim O'Rear to release the industry's first instructional "how to" DVD entitled "Living Dead...Live," which takes viewers through his most recent show called "House of the Living Dead."
He is considered the "Howard Stern"
of the Haunted House industry and one of the true pioneers from the New
York / New Jersey area. This is RICH "HORROR MASTER" HANF.
